Censored Search Results

Searching for “I’m on a boat” on Youtube generates this page with the official video strangely absent. Youtube is censoring search results based on geographical location for NBC and other large corporations. Google censors search results in China, but provides a notification at the bottom of the page indicating that some search results were filtered out. Strangely, Google doesn’t do the same thing on YouTube, they silently censor search results without informing the public that they are doing so.

Why is it OK for corporations to censor search results, when it’s not OK for China to do it?

Uncensored Search Results

Here you can see the search results for “Jizz in my pants” a very popular video produced for NBC’s Saturday Night Live. The official music video and channel (highlighted in yellow) are clearly promoted above all the other search results. This video is not geographically restricted and can be viewed by anyone worldwide.

Geographical Restrictions

Just in case anyone has forgotten, geographical restrictions are still going on all over the place. For example: I’m On A Boat, Like A Boss, Umbrella, and lots of other videos on YouTube cannot be viewed in many countries. This screenshot is from Hulu which does not allow anyone outside of the US to view it’s videos.
